Luminescent Night

One of my favourite activities on Salt Spring is swimming in the ocean with friends (SSI Seals). This painting was inspired by an evening swim at Beddis Beach, in August, during the full moon. With every movement, halos of light surrounded our bodies, and luminescent sea creatures magically lit the water.

Like the water, the paint* is also "magical." Recently, I discovered a couple of young art gallery visitors enjoying this magic. Being very much in the moment, the wee ones playfully jumped from side to side for quite some time, delighting in how the painting changes with light and movement.
