Mixed Media, 30"x24"
As the seasons change, so does the light, and how space is perceived. "Autumn Equinox" is one part of a series exploring light at specific times of the year in my area (the southwest corner of British Columbia, Canada).
Most of my work needs to be viewed over time and under different light conditions. Environmental changes affect the work and these changes are are important to the viewer's experience.
To me, the viewer's response over time is much more important than the initial response. Recently, "Autumn Equinox" was on display at the local arts centre. As the local art shows tend to be conservative, I hesitated to exhibit this painting, especially without any explanation. During the show, several viewers excitedly volunteered their experiences of the painting's magical relationship with the changing light. A few people visited the painting several times, just to see the changes. They understood! Success!
A single digital photograph cannot convey these qualities. You are invited to spend more time with these and other paintings to experience their magic.
