Clouds Over Salt Spring

Mixed Media, 3 panels each 14"x11"

"Clouds Over Salt Spring" could be considered a plein air painting, as the texture layer was "drawn" during the summer, while enjoying the beautiful summer weather from my perch on Mount Belcher, overlooking Salt Spring.

Off in the distance, you can see the Cascade mountain range, the Pacific Ocean, and Gabriola Island, but most of Salt Spring is under cloud.

A friend recently described my work as spiritual--peaceful but with understatements of danger. If you look carefully, Hirigana (a Japanese script) is interlaced--reminders of the cloud created by the expropriation of Japanese-Canadian lands during WWII.
