"Amidst the Fir," was inspired by the recent show,"Trees..." (Vancouver Art Gallery), and by an impression of the morning vista, looking from Salt Spring, towards Galiano Island and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia (Vancouver area).
"Amidst the Fir," was painted from my rental house on Mount Belcher (approximately 1000 feet from sea level), Salt Spring Island. When I moved there, many trees hid the views of Galiano and the Lower Mainland, but were cut down for the seductive view, to increase property value. Frequent visitors, ravens are considered messengers by First Nations people. If you were the raven, what would be your message?
The trees include a noble fir, an amabilis fir, a subalpine/alpine fir, a Douglas fir, and a grand fir.
